My cheeseboard changed forever three years ago because of Jonathan’s persistent praise for Vacherin cheese. Obviously, I had to try it. The Cheese Shop, acting as a beacon of light, presented a wheel of Vacherin. With strict instructions from Jonathan, the cheese was left out for 5 hours before indulging. I think at this point it is important to point out that I did not understand how anyone can have a favourite cheese. It is simply not possible. Surely?

Well ladies and Gentlemen I give you Vacherin... Not to be dramatic but it is nothing short of revelatory, with the entire wheel disappearing in what felt like the blink of an eye.

So, this year my gift to you is the secret of adding Vacherin to your cheeseboard. With that in mind may I present my Christmas cheese board selection that will tantalize your taste buds:

Cheshire Cheese: A British Gem You must start any good Cheshire cheeseboard with the regional cheese. It can only be Appleby’s! Known for its crumbly texture and slightly tangy taste.

Vacherin: The Creamy Delight Elevate your cheese board with the luxurious Vacherin cheese. It is Jonathan’s favourite so it is on the board. This velvety delight boasts a decadent, creamy texture, and a rich, earthy flavor.

Blue Cheese: A Bold Statement Obviously a Paxton & Whitfield Blue! The tangy and pungent notes add depth to your board.

Cheddar: Classic and Sharp A classic Cheddar is a must-have. I always do Godminster from the heart of somerset.

Goat Cheese: Tangy Sophistication My must is a ‘White Nancy’. The tangy notes complement the richness of other cheeses.

Tunworth: Creamy Bliss Its unctuous texture and buttery, mushroomy flavor make it a standout on any cheese board.

Manchego: Spanish Elegance Infuse a bit of Spanish flair with Manchego. This sheep’s milk cheese boasts a firm texture and a nutty taste.

Pair them with an assortment of crackers, salted butter, quince, and figs.
